Author Visits

Lindsay offers schools and libraries numerous engaging virtual and in-person presentations perfect for children in grades PK-2. Lindsay would love to connect with your students, capture their imaginations and broaden their minds about the world of writing and publishing through interactive, informational, and FUN sessions. Check out these offerings! (If you are looking for presentations for Grades 3-5, don’t fret! Keep reading below.)

Presentations by Lindsay Leslie (PK-2)

For the 2026-27 school year, Lindsay will offer:

1. HOP ON BOARD AND FOLLOW YOUR PASSIONS

Are you in love with reading? Is math more your thing? Are you always doodling? Do you think horses are the best animals around? Do planes, trains, and cars get your heart pumping? In this interactive presentation, author Lindsay Leslie will take students on a route to realize their passions — just like Gus realized his in Gus Hearts the Bus — and share how her passions led her to become a children’s author after many twists and turns.

2. SO YOU HAVE AN IDEA

The idea for Lindsay’s first picture book came from her stepping on one of her son’s books. Her fourth picture book, So You Want to Build a Library, was born from a conversation she had with her younger son’s friend. Like clouds, ideas float all around ready to be grabbed and developed, the next step just takes imagination! In this presentation, Lindsay will talk about where she gets ideas, how to determine which one is worth pursuing, and how to go from idea to final product. She will also play an interactive “what if” game that will for sure get the crowd using their imaginations!

3. EXPLORING STORIES WITH ALL OF YOUR SENSES

When writing Dusk Explorers, Lindsay pulled on her childhood memories of playing outside in the summertime with her neighbor friends. She could smell the freshly cut grass and hear the cicadas thrumming. To make readers feel like they were there, too, she pulled on all of her senses in her writing. Lindsay will walk through the five senses and how powerful and instrumental they are when telling a story.

TWO-FOR-ONE PRESENTATIONS with Authors Lindsay Leslie and Kari Lavelle (PK-5)

Lindsay and author Kari Lavelle (her critique partner, friend, and fellow muppety person) love to present together, because two are definitely better than one. They have traveled far and wide over the past few years to offer these following programs for Grades PK-5. Each presentation is adjusted appropriately for grade level.

1. BATTLE OF THE GENRES: Fiction vs. Nonfiction

In this battle of the genres presentation, Lindsay and Kari will engage kids in a fiction vs. nonfiction throw-down. Is one genre better and more exciting to read than the other? Are they really that different from each other? Kari and Lindsay will go head-to-head and dive into the differences and similarities of fiction and nonfiction books and how they approach writing them. Spoiler alert: fiction has no bounds, but can very much be based in reality and sometimes pulled from an author’s experiences, while nonfiction can take a reader on a wild ride and explore a variety of topics—from wacky to serious.

Kari & Lindsay are super engaging for learners of all ages! They keep the students engaged while reviewing key language arts concepts. I highly recommend! — Andrea Colwell, Librarian, Scobee Elementary, Northside ISD in San Antonio, Texas

2. BATTLE OF THE BIG FEELINGS

Drawing from the emotions of characters from their favorite books and their own experiences as writers, Lindsay and Kari empower kids in this interactive presentation to harness their own emotions to create beautiful things (while having fun in a game-centered presentation).

The energy, excitement and game format was perfect for our students. Also – the way in which you were able to bring in so many amazing titles that students could connect with was something we have never seen before – our collection benefited from that! A fifth grade student said that he loved the presentation and was so happy to have an author who didn’t just “yap yap yap” but made listening to and learning about books/writing – fun! — Tara LaCerra, Library Media Specialist, Westmoor School in Northbrook, Illinois

3. A COMBINATION!

With great success, Lindsay and Kari have done a combination of their presentations for schools. Consider this sample event plan for a full day of fun author visits:

  • HOP ON BOARD AND FOLLOW YOUR PASSIONS — Lindsay presents to Grades PK-1
